What are the different career opportunities/jobs available in your sector? 

There are various roles within OCPL:

  • Administrative staff of various grades (x6)
  • Paralegal (x1)
  • Crown Counsel (x10)
  • DPP (x1)

What’s interesting/fun about your sector/industry? Why should a young person want to work there?

Working within the OCPL is a highly rewarding career with an immense variety of work. The main function of the department is to prosecute all criminal matters at all levels of court but we are also involved in other areas of law such as civil litigation, judicial review and employment matters.

The OCPL staff at all levels are involved in handling what is very sensitive information and are a crucial part of the criminal justice system in Gibraltar.

There are also opportunities to collaborate with and work closely with other prosecutorial agencies abroad.

What is demand looking like in your sector? How do you think this will change in the future?

There will always be a need to properly staff the OCPL given the important public functions it undertakes. Those requirements are unlikely to change noticeably in the future.

What is the approximate salary range can people earn?

Administrative grades earn in accordance with HMGoG salary scales

Crown Counsel earn in accordance with HMGoG scales

What career pathways are available for a young person wanting to join your sector? (University and non-uni routes)

Admin staff would come into this sector via usual HMGoG recruitment route.

Crown Counsel and paralegals are required to have a law degree as well as necessary professional/practising certificates etc.
